Tarkan* is granted asylum
Background
Good news is hard to come by these days, so we would like to share a recent success story. One of our immigration attorneys, convinced an immigration judge to grant asylum to Tarkan*, her gay client from Turkmenistan.
Tarkan had been detained at Krome for 3.5 months during the pandemic. The same judge had denied him bond for bogus reasons.
Assistance
The judge forced the attorneys to appear in person, so our attorney had to put on both metaphorical and literal armor (PPE) to advocate for her client.
Why it Matters
Now Tarkan is finally free and doesn’t have to worry about being sent back to a Country where being gay is actually illegal. Tarkan was sobbing joyfully as the judge told him her decision – and so was our attorney!
