A Morning with Pulitzer Prize Winning Author
GILBERT KING
Gilbert King is the author of three books, most recently, Beneath a Ruthless Sun. His previous book, Devil in the Grove, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction in 2013. King has written about race, civil rights, and the death penalty for the New York Times, the Washington Post, and The Atlantic, and he is a contributor to The Marshall Project, a nonprofit news organization covering the U.S. criminal justice system. A dynamic speaker, who blends his gift for narrative with his knowledge of civil rights cases, he has delivered presentations to a reunion of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall’s clerks, the keynote for the Learned and Augustus Hand’s Lecture, Yale Law School, the NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund, Florida Supreme Court, and Ford Foundation. As a special treat for us, King will unveil his most recent project at Bridge to Justice – an exciting announcement to be sure!

JOHN OFFERDAHL
The bridge between the legal and business communities is an important one from which many of our clients benefit. This year we proudly present John Offerdahl with our Bridge to Justice Award to recognize and highlight the work he has done to build bridges in our community. A successful entrepreneur, businessman, and former all-pro Miami Dolphins linebacker, John also is a dedicated philanthropist. He and his entire family have been giving back to the community for decades. In 2015, the Home Team Advantage Restorative Housing project was launched. This program provides housing for vulnerable families seeking relational restoration, self-sufficiency, and homeownership victory. John also was fast to respond to community needs in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. Offerdahl’s GRATEful-Fresh Meal Program launched in April 2020 and has provided over 1 million meals to first responders, healthcare workers on the frontline, vulnerable families and seniors at home.

The annual Bridge to Justice Breakfast serves to increase awareness and raise critical funds for Legal Aid programs in Broward. The morning program will spotlight the vital work of these organizations to assist vulnerable and underserved populations in Broward. We hope you will join us!
