Luke Seeks Treatment and Counseling
Background
Luke*, a Veteran, had been arrested and sent to Veterans Treatment Court due to substance abuse, which caused a rift in his family. Luke contacted us regarding his options for reuniting with his children.
Assistance
The children’s mother was represented by an attorney who was attempting to paint the Veteran as a danger to his children due to his mental health and substance abuse problems. Fortunately, we were able to intervene and convince Luke to continue with his treatment and seek additional counseling.
Why It Matters
Not only did this help his case by providing evidence of progress, it also helped Luke to overcome several of the hurdles preventing him from living a productive life. After many months of litigation and setbacks, we were able to obtain limited timesharing for the Veteran with a plan to increase visitation as he progresses. Currently, the Veteran has equal time-sharing with his children and has embraced his role as a co-parent.
