Alex Gets Help with her Eviction
Background
After losing her job and not being able to pay her rent for a prolonged period, Alex* finally received an eviction notice from her landlord. After doing some research, Alex contacted every possible organization she could find to apply for rent assistance. Unfortunately, she was not able to get any financial help anywhere.
Assistance
Overwhelmed by the situation, Alex came to Legal Aid with the eviction filed against her for over $5,000 past due rent. Under the supervision of Legal Aid’s Housing Unit Supervisor, a NOVA Southeastern University Law Student was able to guide Alex thru the entire eviction process. Needless to say, Alex was reassured she was taking the right steps in dealing with her eviction.
Why it Matters
Fortunately, during the process, Alex was able to get a new job. Legal Aid negotiated a settlement agreement ending the eviction lawsuit against her and releasing her from any other amount due between the parties. This new set of circumstances allowed Alex to have a fresh start and transition into a new place.
