Katherine (Kathy) Guerra is the Director of the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) at Legal Aid, serving clients in both Broward and Collier Counties. Prior to joining Legal Aid, Guerra worked for private law firms assuming an active role in all aspects of the tax and estate planning process including business due diligence, industry analysis, transaction structuring, and management evaluation. Kathy received her Master of Tax Law (LLMT) and her Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Florida – Go Gators! During 2019, LITC represented over 260 taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and Tax Court, with a total reduction of tax liability of approximately $700,000.
Kathy believes that access to representation is fundamental to universal achievement of taxpayer rights. For taxpayers to voluntarily comply with their tax obligations and responsibilities they must have access to information, to representation, and to Taxpayer Advocate Services which include LITCs.
