Profile in Good: Jonathan Axel
Jonathan Axel graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in May of 2015. After graduating, Jonathan did some criminal defense work and general civil litigation. Jonathan started working for Legal Aid Service of Broward County in August of 2018 as an attorney in the VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) Unit.
“One of the most rewarding aspects of the job is that it provides the opportunity to assist those that really need our help and have often been turned away by several other agencies. I am thankful to my family at Legal Aid for placing their trust in me as an effective advocate for the people of Broward County.” – Jonathan Axel.
In the VOCA unit, he is tasked with representing Broward County residents that are victims of crime and now face legal issues as a consequence of victimization. Examples of such situations include victims of assault seeking a protective order against the assailant and victims of financial fraud now facing secondary consequences of the crime such as the inability to pay their rent.
“The atmosphere at Legal Aid fosters a great degree of collaboration. Ultimately, this allows for greater employee growth and most importantly, more effective advocacy on behalf of our clients,” says, Jonathan.
