Pro Bono Attorney Spotlight: Kevin Rajabalee, Esq.

Influenced to go into consumer law by personal experiences, Kevin Rajabalee, Esq., is a Consumer Law attorney dedicated to pursuing justice for his clients at Sharmin & Sharmin Attorneys at Law. Since 2017, Kevin has also been successfully working on pro bono cases with Legal Aid Programs in Broward County’s Broward Lawyers Care (BLC) in the areas of consumer protection laws, rights, and issues. Prior to this, Kevin served at Legal Aid Service Of Broward County (LAS) in various positions, from intern, to paralegal and then staff attorney, where he ultimately represented low-income clients sued by third-party debt collection companies at the county and circuit level.

Kevin never intended to pursue a career in law, but after a short stint teaching, he was ready for a new challenge that would open doors for himself, while helping the community at-large. Kevin graduated from Florida State University with a B.S. in Criminology, and a B.A. in Political Science in 2007. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from St. Thomas University School of Law in 2013 and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2015. One year later, he was admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida in and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida in 2017.

Over the years, Kevin has managed 170+ state court cases for claims against clients on student loans, mortgage foreclosures, and a variety of other civil matters. He has diligently conducted complex evidentiary hearings in Bankruptcy Court for clients seeking a discharge.During these cases, he has represented clients whose wages have been garnished and has advocated for statutory exemptions at court hearings. Through his work, he continues to provide a voice for those wronged by working with mortgage servicers for clients whose home loans were not being serviced in accordance with the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA). He has filed state and federal actions against debt collection companies, landlords, credit reporting agencies, and other corporations for violations of relevant consumer law. Kevin has also provided legal defense to consumers facing foreclosure, debt collection, and wage garnishments.

When asked why he went into this specific practice area of law, Kevin responded with “I love giving a voice to people who can’t seem to be heard in the courts and are at risk of having their rights pummeled by a big powerful and wealthy corporation.”

With a passion to protect his clients’ rights, Kevin is a dedicated, honest, and hardworking attorney who loves to fight for consumers.  He speaks three languages (French, English, and Spanish) which afford him the opportunity to work with a diverse population. Kevin enjoys protecting the at-risk community from large corporations and bullies. He is not afraid to provide a voice for those in need and bring justice to the forefront to get the right result.
