I joined the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Services of Broward and Coast to Coast legal Aid in 2017. As a lawyer, knowing that there are so many persons who do not have access to justice because of their lack of financial resources is frustrating. The need is always greater that what we can do as individuals. LAS and CCLA are an answer to the need we have as a society to provide legal representation to those who cannot defend themselves. As an immigration lawyer, I see this every day because having legal representation normally makes the difference between being deported or being granted the right to live legally in the United States.
LAS and CCLA have been a force for the good of our community. As a Board member, I have had the opportunity to interact with Legal Aid employees for the past three years. I’m always impressed with their passion for what they do, and how much they can do with so little. From sharing office space to juggling caseloads with limited staff, their resilience to get the job done is remarkable.
It is an honor to serve on the Board of these two great organizations. The staff of LAS and CCLA are true heroes. I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone that works at LAS and CCLA for everything they do. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of so many people. I also want to use this space as an invitation to other lawyers and business owners in our community to support the mission of LAS and CCLA to provide high quality free civil legal advice, representation and education to the disadvantaged of Broward County.
