Shirley* is a low-income and disabled senior who contacted CCLA when her husband suddenly stopped paying spousal support. For Shirley, the spousal support was her livelihood. Without it, she was struggling to pay any of her bills – including her rent – and was imminently facing eviction and homelessness.
Pro Bono attorney Hilary Creary offered to take Shirley’s case through Broward Lawyers Care. After filing the necessary pleadings, attending multiple hearings, and participating in mediation, Ms. Creary was able to reach a settlement in Shirley’s case. Creary’s hard work paid off to the tune of $44,000 dollars awarded to Shirley. Naturally, Shirley was ecstatic and very relieved. She was saved from homelessness and her future is much more stable.
