When Panira Healthcare Clinic, a nonprofit medical clinic in Naples, wanted to expand its mission to serve community members regardless of their ability to pay, it endured its fair share of deterrents. After nearly a year of delayed construction and problematic payments, Panira discovered that their general contractor was operating without a license. When Panira confronted the general contractor halfway through construction, he deserted Panira and left the organization in a tremendously vulnerable position. With the help of Legal Aid’s Florida Community Economic Development Project, Panira was able to locate a licensed general contractor, inform him of the situation, and negotiate a settlement and general contractor’s agreement to quickly complete construction. The ribbon cutting ceremony took place on October 3, 2019 and the public was invited to witness Panira’s stunning new space that serves its patients with quality and integrity.
