Stephen Ferrante to Receive Commitment to Justice Award
Presented by Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (August 18, 2016) – Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida (CCLA) announces they will present advocate Stephen Ferrante, MSW, with the sixth annual Commitment to Justice Award. The award will be presented at the 15th Annual For the Public Good event on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six in Fort Lauderdale.
The Commitment to Justice Award was established by CCLA in 2011 to celebrate and commemorate their first year of participating in For the Public Good. This award honors members of the community whose work improves the lives of low-income seniors, veterans or families through advocacy, education, representation and empowerment.
During his thirty-three year professional career working in human services, Stephen Ferrante has launched countless innovative and impactful initiatives for children, families, veterans, and older adults. Ferrante worked for Broward County’s Human Services Department for twenty-one years, and served as the Elderly and Veterans Services Division Director for ten years. He currently teaches for Barry University’s MSW Program and is a managing partner of the Group Victory strategy and organization development consulting firm.
“My social work profession and human services work embrace the significance and value of access to justice for all,” explains Ferrante. “Through my collaboration and experience with Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida and Legal Aid Service of Broward County, I have directly witnessed their impactful counsel and empowering advocacy with multiple at-risk populations.”
Past recipients of the Commitment to Justice Award include:  Elizabeth G. Daugherty, Esq.–2011; The Honorable Ronald J. Rothschild–2012; Lisa Goldberg, Esq.–2013; Edith Schaffer Lederberg – 2014; and Samuel S. Goren, Esq. – 2015.
The annual fundraiser will honor members of the community who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to secure justice and change lives for the underprivileged and underserved in Broward County. An estimated 450 Broward County lawyers, judges and community leaders are expected to be in attendance, for what is widely-noted throughout Broward as the premier pro-bono recognition event of the year.
Proceeds from the event benefit children and families served by LAS and CCLA and enable both organizations to serve greater numbers of those in need.  A few of the many legal services provided include helping seniors and veterans gain much needed benefits, abused children in foster care, the homeless, children in need of special education, victims of domestic violence and families losing their homes to foreclosure. Annual sponsors of LAS and CCLA include Valley National Bank; US Legal Support; Kim Vaughan Lerner, LLP; Farmer, Jaffe, Weissing, Edwards, Fistos & Lehrman, PL; and CopyScan Technologies.
