Profile in Good: Marjorie Desporte, Esq.
Marjorie Desporte is a Staff Attorney for Legal Aid Service of Broward County’s Community Economic Development Unit. In this role, Marjorie works to provide legal assistance to low-moderate income entrepreneurs and businesses. She also represents nonprofits that offer vital services, such as affordable housing, healthcare services, financial literacy and childcare to underserved communities.
It was Legal Aid Service of Broward County’s mission to give legal assistance to the most disadvantaged at no cost, which inspired Marjorie to apply for this position. Prior to working with the non-profit, Marjorie’s areas of expertise include helping businesses navigate Purchase and Sale agreements, Mergers & Acquisitions due diligence, loan financing documentation, licensing and more.
When asked what Marjorie enjoys most about working with LAS in the Community Economic Development Unit, she explained that “seeing firsthand how LAS partners with other community organizations to provide free legal services for minority owned small businesses, non-profit organizations, and how they provide access to low-income housing and benefits to Broward residents facing financial challenges.”
Marjorie also currently serves as Assistant General Counsel for the State of Florida’s Office of Financial Regulation, Division of Finance in West Palm Beach. Her extensive career as an attorney includes working as Assistant General Counsel at Florida’s Dept. of Children & Families, and Lead Counsel at Legal Group, PLLC.
Marjorie earned her Juris Doctor Degree from Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad Law Center in Ft. Lauderdale and a B.S. in Business Management from the same alma mater. Marjorie’s Bar admissions include the Palm Beach Bar Association, Florida Bar, Caribbean Bar, and American Bar Association.
