Profile in Good: Andrea Montavon-McKillip

Andrea Montavon-McKillip joined Legal Aid in early 2017 as the Supervising Attorney of the Immigration Practice.
Andrea is Board Certified in Immigration and Nationality Law by the Florida Bar, a member of the Client Security Fund Committee of the Florida Bar, serves as Chair of the Distance Learning Committee of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and serves on the Litigation and CLE Committees of the South Florida chapter of AILA.
Recently, Andrea has been involved in federal class action litigation stemming from the U.S. government’s botched deportation flight of 92 Somalis. The 92 men and women were shackled and held in the captivity of a charter plane for two days, including 23 hours on a runway in Senegal, before being returned to the United States. The federal judge recently held that he has jurisdiction to stay any renewed attempts to deport the 92 individuals, until they have a chance to have their cases heard in immigration court.
