Jeffrey Rubinton is the founder and managing partner of Rubinton & Associates, P.A. Drawing upon his broad range of experience, Mr. Rubinton provides his clients with individualized advice and counsel related to all aspects of insurance claims and litigation.
An accomplished civil and commercial litigation attorney, Mr. Rubinton has litigated cases and represented clients, on both the state and federal levels, in matters involving first-party property claims, commercial property claims, class action defense, complex high exposure third party liability, construction defects and employment law. Mr. Rubinton’s focus on pre-suit claims includes fraud and arson investigations, coverage determinations, claims-handling processes, and bad-faith avoidance.
Recently, Mr. Rubinton defended class action suits in federal court relating to Chinese drywall. He has also successfully prompted the professional regulatory board in Florida to pursue experts for fraud and misrepresentation in eight-figure commercial property insurance defense cases.
Before entering private practice, Mr. Rubinton accepted a position as a staff attorney for Legal Aid Service of Broward County, Inc., where his responsibilities included defending tenants in litigation brought by private and public property owners. Mr. Rubinton then served as a Senior Assistant Attorney General for the State of Florida, for five years, in the economic crime unit, where he was responsible for environmental claims litigation throughout Florida, as well as prosecuting and investigating consumer fraud. His trial experience includes acting as lead trial counsel on highly publicized cases as Department of Legal Affairs v. Father & Son Moving & Storage, Inc. and Department of Natural Resources et al. v. Kawama Club Condominium.
Mr. Rubinton was a member of the Law Enforcement Coastal Protection Statutory Review Committee, the National Association of Attorneys General Environmental Task Force, and the South Florida Chapter of the League of Environmental Enforcement and Prosecution, where he served as Chair in 1992. Additionally, Mr. Rubinton was counsel to the State of Florida’s Oil Spill Response Team and handled claims for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in cases involving oil spill litigation, Superfund, illegal dredge and fill, destruction of mangroves, illegal dumping, natural resource damages, solid and hazardous waste, and soil and water contamination. Thereafter, Mr. Rubinton continued his governmental and environmental practice with a state-wide insurance defense firm in Miami.
After several years as a partner for another state-wide insurance defense firm, Mr. Rubinton and a colleague formed the firm of Rubinton & Laufer, P.A. In 2012, seeking to provide clientele with more personalized service, Mr. Rubinton established Rubinton & Associates, P.A. Mr. Rubinton has lectured on the issues of insurance bad faith, premises liability, comparative negligence, environmental causes of action, and unfair and deceptive trade practices. Mr. Rubinton graduated from the University of South Florida in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science, and received his Juris Doctor in 1989 from Nova Southeastern University School of Law. He is admitted to the Florida Bar and United States District Court for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida.
