Elaine was our first Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) client several years ago. Elaine and her family were significantly affected by the economic downturn. Elaine lost her property in Georgia in a foreclosure proceeding forcing her and her family to relocate to south Florida to reside temporarily with family.
Elaine’s husband was able to secure employment which enabled them to rent an apartment. In time, his work hours were substantially reduced, a hardship rendering them unable to pay their rent on time and resulted in an eviction notice.
Legal Aid assisted Elaine and her family in avoiding eviction. As it was close to Christmas, Elaine and her family were also assisted through our annual Holiday Adopt-A-Family program, which ensures safe and joyous holidays for those in need, thanks to generous and caring adopters.
Soon after, Elaine was able to market herself and become self-employed preparing tax returns. Deeply grateful and inspired by what Legal Aid had done for her family, Elaine paid it forward this past year and adopted two families in need.
