Dunay, Miskel & Backman, LLP once again participated in our Adopt-A-Family project, adopting two families for Christmas. Andrea Keiser shared the experience, saying “Thank you for the opportunity to bring some joy to deserving families this 2017 holiday season. Both the Shawfield and Williams’ families received 6 foot real, Fraser Fir Christmas trees that were fully decorated by each team and surrounded with dozens of presents. In addition to fulfilling everyone’s wish list and more, each family received gift cards to help with their daily needs. The Shawfield boys received the gift of tickets to see their favorite team play – the Miami Dolphins! The Williams children all received their very own bicycles!” Thank you Andrea Keiser and everyone at Dunay, Miskel & Backman for making this season bright for these two amazing families!
Over the past couple of years, one of our past Executive Council members, Matthew Rocco, rallies over 25 of his former Broward College colleagues to adopt multiple families, dividing them up into teams to deliver gifts. Though he is no longer with Broward College, Associate Dean Thomas Nguyen, along with the help of his Emerging Leaders Group, stepped up to the plate to help continue this wonderful tradition. Each family was overwhelmed with such joy and happiness that they were able to have a bright Christmas. We can’t thank Thomas and the Emerging Leaders Group enough for taking up the torch and helping to organize such a successful and rewarding experience for our clients!
In continuing the tradition of helping out fellow community non-profit partners, LifeNet4Families was able to donate food boxes for the holidays to families in our Adopt-A-Family project. Thirteen families who otherwise wouldn’t know where their next meal would come from were recipients. A huge thank you to Salomon Diaz for helping to enhance our annual Adopt-A-Family project and help more families in need this holiday season!
In addition to coordinating LifeNet4Families’ participation, Salomon Diaz’s own family also adopted a family. Mr. Diaz and his wife Giselle Chia took their children to their adopted families’ home to deliver gifts. The experience was something they’ll never forget! “Our daughter is almost three and it will be a nice experience for her to provide gifts to someone her own age,” explained Mr. Diaz in an email before meeting with the family. Its adopters such as Salomon Diaz that make this project a very rewarding one!
Each year, US Legal Support hosts a Holiday Party, with all donations made that evening earmarked for our Adopt-A-Family project. With the help of Jennifer Gaul and all who attended this year’s event, US Legal raised nearly $800. With these monies, we are able to purchase gift cards for families that weren’t adopted, plus extra gift cards for any clients with need throughout the year. We can’t thank Jennifer Gaul and everyone at US Legal support for their unconditional and continued support!
After the staff at Rogers Morris & Ziegler, LLP raised over $400 towards the Adopt-A-Family project, the partners went an extra step further and matched the staff donations. The total donation of $800 in WalMart gift cards will help our clients throughout the year. “It’s great to help our clients out during the holidays, but during those off months where some may not know where their next meal is coming from, these gift cards can surely help them out,” project coordinator Melissa Kamelhair stated. We can’t thank Robin Moselle and Liza Smoker enough for coordinating this, plus everyone at Roger Morris & Ziegler for their support of this project and the missions of Legal Aid Service and Coast to Coast!
